Jessica McCormick, City-County Councillor

I'm Jessica McCormick and I'm proud to be your City-County Council representative in District 16.

I'm excited to serve my community and represent the wonderful people here on the west side in Wayne Township and the Town of Speedway.

When my husband and I were looking to buy our 1st home we knew it was going to be on the west side of Indianapolis and fell in love with the Town of Speedway. We've lived here for over 15 years and are happy to be raising two young children here. As our family grew our little house did not, so we had to make a choice: move out or build up. It was an easy choice: with great friends, a lovely neighborhood, and a fantastic community around us, we got the help of a local construction company and added on to our Westside home!

My community means so much to me, and that’s why I have been committed to helping take care of it. I volunteer as the treasurer of the parent teacher organization at my daughter’s school, and as a youth soccer coach. 14 years ago I started a summer camp for high school girls in Indianapolis who were interested in pursuing engineering as a career path. What began as a 2 and a 1/2 day camp for local girls quickly grew to a 7 day residential camp that’s still going strong and continues to grow. I don't run the camp anymore, but I’ve stayed involved each year.

I have a B.S. in engineering and a Master’s degree in technology–both from the Purdue School of Engineering and Technology at IUPUI. Since 2007, I’ve run the Engineering Dual Degree Program, a joint position between Butler University and IUPUI. I analyze data and facts and use problem-solving skills to get results. I care about my students and take great pride in preparing them for life in the real world: not just in successful careers, but as productive people giving back to their communities.

Strong partnerships are important to me. I know I can be a great representative for District 16 and will partner with anyone who has our communities’ best interests in mind, from right here in our district to all of Indianapolis, to our state leaders.

We have work to do and there are many issues that matter. We need good jobs, better roads and reliable transportation, safe neighborhoods, and we must address our communities  food deserts.

I listen to the people in District 16, learn what's important to our residents, and lead us to the kind of change that will make us even prouder to call the west side home!

I look forward to Continuing to represent my neighbors, friends, and all the people of District 16!
